Weight loss and exercise efficiency testing

DNA Diet: Genetic testing to assist with weight loss and weight gain

Genetics can determine the way a person responds to diet and exercise, as well as an individual’s susceptibility to obesity when exposed to unfavourable environmental factors. In fact 40% to 80% of the variance in body weight is due to genetic factors. This helps to explain why not everyone becomes obese even though people may be exposed to similar environments.  Genes involved in the regulation of energy expenditure, insulin control, appetite and fat metabolism all play an important role in weight regulation.

DNA Diet is a genetic test that assesses 13 genes that impact metabolism and exercise. Your detailed report will include tailor made recommendations for nutrition and an exercise programme.

The DNA Diet test is available through Dr Cornelia Botha. If you would like to make an appointment to see Dr Botha, please contact her receptionist by visiting our contact page.

If you would like to do additional testing to ensure that other diseases or hormone imbalances are not contributing to your weight gain or weight loss please contact our receptionist to make an appointment to see Dr Cornelia Botha by visiting our contact page.

Food hypersensitivity test

Recent research has linked food hypersensitivities to obesity in children. IgG testing can be done to ascertain whether you have developed a hypersensitivity to specific foods. This insight may also shed light on other symptoms you may be struggling with from irritable bowel syndrome to recurrent headaches, sinusitis, asthma and eczema.

Imupro Basic tests a panel of 90 foods: R 2480.00
Imupro Complete tests a panel of 270 foods: R 4850.00

Exclude diseases that cause weight problems

Weight loss requires a combined approach of exercise and diet. Various blood tests should be done to assess whether other diseases are causing weight gain or making it difficult to lose weight. Some of the diseases that often go undiagnosed and the can cause weight gain include thyroid disease and insulin resistance. Various hormone imbalances related to the male and female reproductive systems can also cause weight gain.
